A really amazing read! I couldn't put it down, and actually snug my e-reader into work so I could try and get a couple of chapters in on a slow day. This was a really great novel, written very well. In the intro, AJ Rose talks about how much research she did for this novel, and it really shows in all of the details!Ash's uncle calls to warn him about an impending event. He doesn't have any specifics, but Ash prepares for the worst anyways. So when the power goes out all over NYC, he knows it's time to move. First step: getting out of the city and to his sister and nephew a few hours north. But Ash's lab partner (and not-boyfriend) Eliott isn't going to be left behind. Eliott isn't sure if he believes Ash's paranoid theories, but he isn't going to risk it if Ash is right.
Together they travel north to Ash's sister Charlotte and her son, and then begin the slow and dangerous trip West. The eastern 2/3 of the US are completely without power, and people are panicking, which means Ash and his family and friends have a lot of obstacles in their path before they can get to safety.
Really amazing book. I'll say it again and again. Normally in an apocalypse book you have to suspend disbelief a bit, but AJ really made this novel feel realistic! It made me want to read with all of the lights on, that's for sure!

The Long Fall of Night was a really excellent book. I have reread it three times! My only problem is that there is still no sequel!
A.J. Rose is a great author I admit with this book I was scared almost from page 3 with what if this happens. I now have my bug out bag ready. The research this author did is noticed on each page. The story is one of survival post an attack on U.S. soil. A blackout affecting the eastern U.S. the story follows a college student who is trying to lead his family and a few friends from N.Y. to Oregon. The lack of everyday things we take for granted are paramount in this book . It is a great read
Wow! What a story. It gives you a lot to think about while reading. Love Ash and Elliott. Ash's protectiveness of the people he loves is admirable. Elliott's character made me want to protect him as much as Ash and Brian, but he was suprising strong and smart through the story. I love this author's books because I always enjoy the various point of views and want to know more about the secondary characters. Can't wait for the sequel.
She's done it again. How does this author continue to captive us with her books? Pure talent and imagination, that's how. This book is a different story line then what I'm used to reading from this author, but no less enticing, interesting, fascinating, and even thought provoking. I mean, really. I never gave it much thought, but what would happen if over half the United States lost power? The journey Ash, Elliot, and his group are on to reach the west ,where they still have power,and family, is a long and at times painful, one. I don't want to give anything away but can't wait to read the next book in this series. I was captured from page 1 and held till the end. Outstanding.
OH God! Where do I start...the preview of the possible future for our civilization kind of Mad Max thing where we're suddenly find ourselves without our computers, fridge to keep food, hospitals, gas, Ipod's ...because of hackers attack! Recently wall street had stoped, United airlines had their planes on floor after computer system shut down! It really made me reflect how in ourdays we depend on all these modern machines loosing our touch with mother earth! This the scenerio AJ sets us for this bumpy and breathtaking ride. Love, Ash, Riley, Donnie, Chris and most of all Elliot. Elliot struggling with his emotional and health problems to find love in a broad sense. So cute! Love to read book 2.
I am terrible at writing reviews but I am going to try to do right by this book because it is that good.
First off the author is an amazing storyteller and I have enjoyed everything she has written but I was particularly excited about this story. Something about the cover drew me in & I knew it would be like nothing I had ever read.
The characters are very dimensional and you feel like you are on the journey with them. I can honestly say I was on the edge for most of the book and a little sad when it ended. I miss them, especially Elliot!
I eagerly await the next book and am so happy it won't be too long of a wait.
I highly recommend this book to everyone. You will fall in love with not only the MCs but the entire cast. Well, most of them.
I have to say I really wished I hadn't started reading this book for two reasons.
1st reason This book was so crazy amazingly good that I couldn't stop reading it and now I have to wait for the next book. I do not have the patience to wait to find out what happens next. But alas I will wait and probably read this one again.
2nd reason This book is scary, because everything in this story could happen. Not going any further so I don't give any spoilers.
I have read every AJ Rose book and am never disappointed. I think I will have a book hangover for a while. (And maybe even start stockpiling water.)
I recommend this story to everyone. This is not a romance of the typical variety, but there is some love in the story. I'd say it's more of a suspense-mystery-adventure-love story.
